ASPA Completes Hydrothermal Spa Remodelling at Wyndham Grand Carvoeiro Algarve
ASPA International has completed the remodelling of the spa at the newly opened Wyndham Grand Carvoeiro Algarve, supporting the transformation of the former Hotel Baía Cristal Beach & Spa Resort in Carvoeiro, Portugal, from a four-star property into a five-star Wyndham Grand destination.
The wider hotel project involved an extensive renovation and rebranding of the existing property, creating a new luxury hospitality experience in one of the Algarve's most established coastal destinations.
The architectural design was led by Lisbon-based NLA, with DDN Engineering responsible for project management. As part of the transformation, ASPA was appointed to remodel and enhance the existing spa area, introducing a comprehensive range of hydrothermal experiences designed to create a more engaging and memorable wellness journey for guests.
The redesigned spa brings together heat, cold, water and sensory experiences, with each element carefully considered to work as part of the wider thermal journey.
At the heart of the experience is a sauna with panoramic views, allowing guests to enjoy the surrounding Algarve landscape while experiencing traditional heat therapy. The sauna also features an automatic water and aroma infusion system, with three distinct aroma profiles representing Morning, Noon and Afternoon.
The thermal experience continues with an ice fountain, providing an opportunity for guests to introduce cold into their journey and experience the benefits of contrast bathing. A cold water fall and Kneipp hose add further cold-water experiences, encouraging guests to move between heat and cold as part of a structured thermal circuit.
A sensory shower introduces another layer to the experience. Its aroma and sensory programme has been developed to evoke the weather and atmosphere of the Algarve cliffs, connecting the wellness experience to the hotel's coastal setting.
The steam cabin provides a contrasting environment to the dry heat of the sauna, with three aromas available for guests to select from. The two-level design adds an additional dimension to the steam experience, allowing guests to choose their preferred position within the cabin.
The spa is completed by a vitality pool incorporating four massage stations, providing guests with a place to relax, enjoy hydrotherapy and simply spend time in the water.
Together, these facilities create a complete hydrothermal experience within the existing spa footprint, demonstrating how thoughtful design and specialist expertise can transform an established wellness area without losing the character of the original property.
